If your stone is rectangular, place the 'long-section' of the stone along the long part of your finger. I've seen it placed 'across the finger' & it makes the stone look loads smaller. Measure it first!!!

Princess (Square) Stone, Engagement ring.
On a "Difficulty Scale of 10", I'd estimate this one setting topic rate about as high as it can..maybe a 25. Imagine Bright-Cutting into the corners of the 'vee' shaped claw, I do this all the time. This one process makes the finished claw tip look almost 'invisible'.
