"Princess, (Square Stone) setting"

"Gypsy" or as it's also known as "Flush Setting". This process literally covers the very edges of the girdle to the stone. There will be an amount of metal covering, but it has to be carefully removed. After opening up the hole for the stone, all preparations prior must be delicately followed. The bearing-cut must be at the same depth all around the hole. For this exercise I'm setting a 2.50mm size stone, but I will use only a #022 156C, under-cutting, or bearing-cutting bur
Sliding in the stone and being made ready for the gentle hammering now takes place. I prefer to use a hammer instead of burnishing, as it's more exacting, but it leaves me much metal to Bright-Cut afterwards. Burnishing, does not leave any metal to bright cut!!! Not filing must take place, why so? We don't use any filing, as it isn't necessary, we use the hammer-hits to make a smooth surface.
In the following photographs, you can see how this process take place. At the very finish of the setting, all I need is a Flat-faced pumice wheel of #180 grit, nothing else is really needed!
To make the surface even smoother, I'd use a Pink Pumice wheel of #1,000 grit and you can see the difference at the last photograph, half-ring polished. Finish the ring totally, before using your polishing wheel.
