Any gem-setting tool that I buy, will be modified to my needs, whatever they happen to be. This "Half-Round" bur is of no exception. The round-bur is shaped to the Cabochon stone on a bench-grinder.
(BTW, I nearly forgot to include a tutorial-essay that appeared in the past "BENCH" trade magazine.) Bradney Simon who was the owner, drove up from South Carolina, USA to interview me as a contributing editor. I then wrote 16 essays for that well known magazine, circa 2012.
I will buy 1/2 dozen, or as many as my needs require. I will never 'go cheap' on buying setting tools.
My (buying) size range is from a small 2 mm's, all the way up to a large 8+mm's in size.
Many times I will find that large Bud-Shaped burs are to be used. Some Cabochon stones will require odd shaped burs, I will have them in my inventory.
In previous years, I used the HSS burs, but those days are long gone. My "modified burs" are so much better, why? The shape of my bur, is automatically the shape of the stone. How is that?
In setting a Flat surface stone, I'd prefer to use my Reciprocating Hammer. So as well in using the Cabochon stone.
In this photo, is my large assortment of the 'half-round' burs. You just never know what size of bur is needed at any moment.
Here is the actual cutting or shaping of the intended Cabochon bur, to the stone. I'll drill the hole or tube-setting exactly to the shape of the stone. How easy is this?
