Which direction should the Emerald Cut stone sit? => 8 photos

This is the correct stone direction for setting a gemstone with 2 parallel sides. I'm not explaining in this essay how this stone should be set, but just the layout. This alone is very important.

When you are starting to set an Emerald-Cut stone, what MUST  you do first?
As seen in the following diagrams, 95% of the time, you will discover that many of the stones will have two dimensions. Just don't look at the stone and guess which angle should go where? Take a digital measuring instrument and make notes.

This particular Princess-Cut stone has equal dimensions on all four sides.

Now compare the previous measurements with those of this odd-shaped stone. Taking notes will help you to decide which side will fit into the 4 claws. The important question "WHY?" will be explained further on.

 1) When you are wearing a stone with two sets of parallel sides. You don't want the widest shape to be along the width of the finger.
 2) This will not exaggerate the 'length' of the stone; it might make the stone look extra-wide.
 3) By setting this 'long' stone in line with the finger, this will accentuate the length considerably and give MORE 'LIFE TO THE STONE & RING'.

By measuring any Emerald Cut stone first, it is not just putting the stone into the ring. There MUST BE SERIOUS PLANNING AHEAD OF TIME.

Please, for esthetics, NEVER SET YOUR LARGE STONE in this configuration.

Even if there is a slight deviation in the measurements, your eye will subtly pick up the differences.

Never say "there is only a little difference". We are jewellery designers and perfectionists; we aim for quality.
