This photo is easy to visualise as if they were just sitting on your ring. Many of these patterns are self-explanatory and do not need much explanation.
When ordering new patterns from your caster, I think that it would be prudent to use their correct names.
As for polishing these ring tops, I would attempt to 'pre-polish' them before soldering the two pieces together.
