What is the correct depth of bearings, in a "2-claw" setting?

 From one single photograph, I've made numerous diagrams showing the exact process of the "2-claw setting". Remember that my diagrams are not perfect, but I attempted to draw to the best of my ability.
 If you wanted a perfect drawing, you could ask "Michelangelo", but he's still very busy painting the "Sistine Chapel", so you're stuck with me 😀😇
=============================================================

 What is wrong with the right claw? The bearing is too far from the top of the claw. The left claw will give you the exact amount of metal to hold the stone.

 This roughly drawn diagram shows EXACTLY where not to place the bearing.
This will give you a very large amount of claw. Most of which will be eventually filed away, so why create more problems?

This bearing when created, is what it looks like before setting of the stone. I know that it looks like an 'ice cream cone' but I'm showing the distance from the 'girdle placement' to the claw top.

  The claw on the 'right' is not what I want to have. You can now see how much of the claw will be removed.
 The claw on the 'left' is just what is wanted, just enough to bend the tip of the claw over the Girdle, then secure this stone for many decades of wear.

  All of this explaining came from one simple photograph that I found in my library.
