This tutorial-essay numbering #149, must be shown and not be forgotten. It's one of these informative videos that display in the greatest detail, how to carve from a simple block of "carving wax" & finishing with a silver pendant set with 3 Cubic Zirconia "Princess-Cut stones".
Although the running time is 53.18 minutes, this video shows you how this wax carving is done.
During my many years at my setting bench, I observed many wax carvers using their own skills in carving patterns. I copied many of their techniques and after a while, I experimented and devised new methods of my own. Some of these techniques are shown and used in this video for you to copy and use.
In this video are many techniques from a wax block to the final silver gemstone setting. The initial wax-carving process is not really that difficult for the "first-time, wax carver", as they call it "it's a piece of cake".
I suggest that you print these many steps, this video will greatly help you, trust me!
What will you find in this video?..."Let me count the ways"!
1) Carving an exacting pattern from a rough block of wax.
2) Measuring the stone diameters in relation to the wax.
3) Cut out an opening with exact proportions to the wax. At this point cut out a space, and allow an opening for your chain.
4) Using an Onglette graver make the very important bearing cuts or grooves into the wax. This is where these 3-stones will eventually sit.
5) There must never be any spaces between the three stones, no spaces. Should I repeat this again? NO SPACES should be seen.
6) Cast the wax form into the metal of your choice.
7) File and "Tripoli, Pre-Polish" your new pattern. Remove any file markings everywhere.
8) Open up the bearings with a "bud-shaped bur" that is shown in the video.
9) Prepare to set 1) the First stone on the end of the channel, 2) Next is the center stone, and 3)Finally, the end stone.
10) Make so very sure that there are no spaces between the 3-stones.
This is so very important!
11) I'm using a "Reciprocating Hammer" to hammer down and carefully move the metal over the three stones in the pendant.
12) Check for gemstone security. There must not be any loose stones anywhere on this new
pendant. You should "karat stamp" your creation at this point, NOW!!!
13) Carefully use your Pumice wheels to remove any marks in & on your silver item. After this
comes your Rouge wheel.
14) NOW ADMIRE YOUR (BEAUTIFUL) SILVER CREATION...!
