What a different kind of bur is this and what it's ultimate purpose? Let me educate you on this strange looking round bur. Trust me, this will be a great labour saving opportunity for your Cabochon stone setting.
=======================================
Tell me how do the teeth of the "1/2 round bur" stay sharp? I just put the bur against my bench-grinder and let the rotating wheel reshape the outside edges again.
In this box of burs are all of my selection of burs of different sizes.
This bur got softened by not cooling the bur steel. It's now unusable, it lost the Carbide steel strength.
This bur is showing the starting of the cutting.
You can see the depth that the bur is going into into the 'tube setting'.
This is the epitome of a well-shaped cutting bur. Examine how sharp those teeth are for cutting into the metal.
The shape of the Cabochon stone MUST match that of the 1/2 round bur. The contours of the stone should be that of the bur.
These burs are good to use, but only two are good for the large bezel. I'd use the two on the left side.
If you need to use a 1/2 round bur for opening up for the Faceted stone, that could be a good idea. As these burs can be useful anywhere, just experiment.
