Prepping for the "3-Stone, Bezel ring"

I'm going to demonstrate the techniques needed to prepare the setting process for a "3-Stone Bezel ring. This topic has been shown many times, each essay on this topic needs to be discussed in great detail.

Before any bearing cuts, the hole must be drilled out and made clear of any residual metal from the casting processes. the stone MUST NOT BE TOUCHING any side metal of the ring.

I suggest a large bud-shaped bur to do the coring, as the Pavillion of the stone must be free of any metal.

Each opening has to be drilled out and free of any metal. The stone MUST NOT BE TOUCHING any metal. Did I say this before? How important is this procedure?

All metal from the casting process must not have any residual pieces of metal. Get it clean, even if you must use a Bud-Shaped bur, remove any unnecessary pieces of metal.

A large Bud Bur is the best tool to use in this cleaning. Use a bur at a high rotating speed, this will get rid of any metal and make it almost shine.

Examine all of the settings with a 10x power loupe. You could even buff this area prior to setting of the stones.

You need to have a clean area in between the three stones. Once the stones are set, forget it...it's too late to polish the important 'in-between' areas.

With your High Speed Steel bur, you can now start drilling a bearing for the girdles of the three stones.

Lubricate the High Speed Steel (HSS) bur as you don't want any metal to stay in between the teeth of the bur. The oil will help to remove and cool the metal preventing any heat build-up. This will happen!!

From my previous essays, now is the 'best' time to Bright-Cut the inner Bezels. this is after your hammering with your "Reciprocating Hammer".

As shown in previous essays, this ring needs to be made to look 100% perfect. If you avoid any steps in "prepping this ring", the ripple-effect will not give you the quality or appearance that you need.

Each step in these essays, are as important as the first. There are no short-cuts in gemstone setting.
