Azure is the American-English derivative if the French word for 'a jour, or 'adjoure'. An Azure is a "Countersunk pattern" created by CAD (Computer Aided Design) in the inside of the main section of the piece of jewellery, that is soldered directly under the inside of the hollowed-out ring. Shown below.
It is an important aspect of Diamond Setting that is often neglected or totally ignored today. In this ring that I created, I went further and incorporated the Casino design into the Azure motif.
My Computer Designer had never seen saw an interesting Azure idea until I asked him to design & create this pattern for me. He was totally speechless with the ensuing results.
=====================================
1) Cutting an Azure is a fundamental practice that shouldn't be overlooked or neglected when making a new ring, why is that?
2) It makes overall cleaning so much easier.
3) This adds an additional design process from underneath.
4) This process removes excess metal from the jewellery item and therefore becomes much lighter in weight.
5) This process provides the jewellery a more professional finish.
6) The Azure pattern removes all excess metal from drilling the holes everywhere.
In these following photos, I'm showing the wax-forms prior to any metal casting. These rings with the Azure is ALWAYS a two-piece construction. Metal 'polishing & cleaning' is completed prior to any soldering of the two or three pieces.
What processes are used in making this Azure? Any design can be made by using a saw-blade of #4 to a finer toothed blade of #6 cut, each pattern had to be cut individually.
This is the epitome of an Azure pattern against your finger. It is so smooth and there is no chance of any 'rim of the ring' cutting into your finger. This is the reason why I think that Azure is so helpful in making the jewellery.
