Cleaning your creations with Pumice wheels - 17 photos

Your jewellery creations always need that 'extra' professional cleaning before the cloth-wheel polishing. Here are my answers to this important task.

                                      ----------------------------------------------------

After your Channel Setting avoid using any file, but instead please use your Pumice Wheel of #180 grit and then followed in using the finer (smoother) wheel of #1,000 grit.

Where there are minute grooves that need to be expertly cleaned, a file is not warranted nor is it required. A Tapered Pumice wheel of #180 grit is the 'sole route to take'. This 'tool of cleaning' is shown in many of my photos.

When you use a triangular file what remains are many striations in the metal. In using the pumice wheel these markings are thankfully never seen.

The fine point of this tapered wheel will give you a smooth even line that your graver might not offer you. So why not use this wheel?

When you are finished with your pliers in claw-setting, there will be remaining little marks on the metal. Only a pumice wheel will give you the 'finish' that you desire.

Get that fine edge of the pumice wheel where your file can't possibly reach.

This fine-pointed pumice wheel is the absolute answer to all of the cleaning and pre-polishing.

When your bezel setting has been completed, the next phase is to use a 'flat faced' pumice wheel of #180 grit. This alone will give you the excellent finish that you need.

Even on the side of a Princess-Cut gem setting claw setting, AVOID using a file. Please stay with the pumice wheel, as shown in this photo.

Another cleaning area is shown here is to use this pumice wheel against the sides of the mount.

Where the file can't reach for the cleaning process is to use the tapered edge of this wheel.

If you have a multiple-claw head, this tapered wheel is all that you need. You have complete control of the wheel against every area that needs cleaning.

This is my partial inventory of rings that this essay is exploring.

A 'Flat-faced, Pumice Wheel' of #1,000 grit, is the best wheel to use after the #180 grit wheel.

After much cleaning, the pumice wheel WILL GET WORN. What is needed is to rotate the wheel against a 'Separating Disk' and the wheel will return to its original condition.

This PINK wheel of #1,000 grit is what you need instead of ruining the surface from the cloth-wheel polishing. You have much better attention in using this fine wheel.

A 'well used' pumice wheel need not be discarded, instead use this rounded edge on the inside of rings where your files can't reach.

I'm hoping that you appreciate these new techniques via my text and using these photos. "gerrylewy18@gmail.com"
